Match Report (GRCC vs CVCC @ CVCC)

CVCC won the toss and chose to field on a bright and scorching day. The weather was very hot and dry with little or no wind blowing across the ground.

Abhishek and Rajeev opened the batting for GRCC. Abhishek was out in the second over of the bowling of Abhijit for 1. Ajay joined Rajeev in the middle and they began to stabilize the innings. Ajay played some crunching shots of the back foot for a few fours whereas Rajeev was content on staying on the wicket and rotating strike. GRCC was going steady at 47/1 at the 10 over drinks break. Mohit, Abhijit and Noman were bowling a tight length and line. Rajeev had to retire hurt at the drinks break.

Vicky Channaraj joined Ajay in the middle and they both started to settle down and milk the bowling. CVCC brought their spinners, Anirban and Kunal, on from both ends and they did a very good job in containing the batsman. They bowled some tight overs between them. Vicky decided to take Kunal on in one over and hit him for three big 6s. Ajay in the meanwhile was getting his singles and occasional boundaries. GRCC were placed at a comfortable 96/1 on the 20 over drinks break.

Ajay got out first ball after the drinks break for a well made 45. The stage was set for GRCCís bit hitter Vivek. He took a little time to settle in and even made a couple of miss hits which landed in no manís land. Vicky C in the mean time was rotating the strike and keeping the scorecard moving. Vivek started coming to his own from the 26th over and he just took the CVCC bowling apart. He started hitting sixes and fours and the run rate started to go up drastically. Vicky C completed a well compiled half century but he also started to have cramps in his hand. He soon retired hurt for a well comprised 56. Vivek took the CVCC bowlers to the cleaners and hitting them for sixes all over the park. He was out in the 33rd over going for another six at 85. Vicky A added quick fire 20 in last 2 overs to help GRCC reach the total of 257.

CVCC started the run chase in disastrous fashion as Ashish was bowled by Ramesh for 0 with an incoming ball that kept low. Kunal joined Sakya in the middle and they started to settle down. Sakya and Kunal were both very strong of their front foot and would hit the bowlers for runs if they over pitched. At the 10 over mark CVCC was going steady at 46/1.

Laxmi, GRCCís captain changed the bowling and brought in Vicky A and Vivek to no avail. In the 17th over he made a double change and brought in Raj and Rajeev from both ends. Rajeev was able to use the slowness of the pitch to good effect with his slow right arm spin. Sakya and Kunal were motoring along nicely at that point at over 5 runs an over. In the 19th over, against the run of play, Rajeev was able to make the ball turn in from off and bowled Kunal who went to play the sweep. CVCC was still very much in the game but GRCC has found an opening.

Yogesh joined Sakya in the middle and both looked really uncomfortable against Rajeevís excellent spin bowling. One over changed the tempo of the game, Sakya was brilliantly caught behind the stumps by Laxmi off Rajeev at 53, next batsmen Hiral was bowled on the first ball he faced, GRCC was back in control. While Rajeev was troubling incoming batsmen, Laxmi was equally brilliant behind the stumps with 2 stumps in next 2 overs. CVCC was at 140 for 7 in 26 overs. With GRCC in full control, Laxmi changed the bowling to try different options, and Yogesh at that had time decided to go for the bowling and hit 11 sixes to make splendid 83.. But asking rate was too much for CVCC, they ended up with 227 in 35 overs.

Men of the match: Vivek for splendid 85 runs and Rajeev for his game changing performance of 5/17 from 5 over.
