GRCC won the toss and select to bat.
Sameer after hitting a lovely square cut for 4 was given out LBW in the first over. Kunal Jain debuting for GRCC joined Rajeev in the middle. Kunal hit some good shots to reach 17 before gifting his wicket. Rajeev on the other side was quite happy to see the new ball through. He was caught by brilliant one handed catch by Cliff at the end of 10th over. GRCC was 56 for 3 at end of 10 overs. Vivek joined Vicky after the break, both started to rotate the strike and kept the scoreboard moving. After getting comfortable in the middle, duo picked up their game as heat index went up. Shots were hit all over the ground, UICC did not know what hit them worse, heat & humidity or Vivek's brutal hitting. Vivek boundaries would have cleared fence of any size cricket ground. He innings covered all most every shot in the book. It was treat to watch his innings. I could mention several shots but would like to mention couple of shots here. One pull over the mid-wicket went miles, ball was a bit shot but he picked it up early and dispatched it to he cleaners. Couple of sixes over long-off landed on the roof of Norfolk County Water Treatment building…. I guess ball was looking for some water in that heat. Vicky on the other side supported him very well, kept rotating the strike to Vivek and played some excellent shot to make 52 before getting out. Vivek was joined by Kunal Kaul who also played some great shots for his 20 runs. Vivek did not get much strike, as Kunal settled in. Vivek reached his century by hiiting a four. He kept going and going, finally getting out in 34th over to a very good catch at mid-wicket boundary. He hit 10 6's and 14 4's. Surender and Hari took GRCC past their last highest total of 292 ending at 298.
After a 30 minute break UICC started their quest to chase 299 for a victory. Their openers seem like had only thing on their mind..hit and just hit. They started slogging from very first ball, with few edges and few slogs their piled up 20 runs in first 2 over. Both openers were out in the similar fashion (edging to third man). Every next batsmen who came to the crease had the same agenda, hit and hit. UICC had one left hander followed one right hander, which combined with the heat made it some what challenging for the bowlers to maintain steady line. UICC kept hitting and missing…Vishnu came and put brakes by giving 9 runs in first 3 overs. GRCC tried several bowlers considering the heat. UICC batsmen kept hitting and getting out. Two batsmen refused to leave the field after given out….One caught in the 3rd slip and other who bowled refused to admit it. I wish UICC team had at least respected the umpires. Finally, UICC were all out for 188 and GRCC was happy to leave Norfolk at 7:15.
Sureneder and Ramesh took 3 wickets each.
Man of the match: Vivek Kaushik for his splendid 140 runs..
